Since 1998 the Shirley Charitable Foundation has been aiding community members and programs to enrich the quality of life in the Shirley Community. The Foundation is focused on bringing people together through programs that might otherwise not be available concentrating on education, public safety, youth activities, arts and cultural performances and senior citizens. We strive to engage people and organizations with shared goals to work together, assisting them with grants and technical support. We also act as a vehicle for linking community resources with community needs, recognizing the importance of a strong vibrant community.
The Shirley Charitable Foundation was formed as the result of a merger between the Shirley Cooperative Bank and the Fidelity Cooperative Bank in March of 1998. The Shirley Cooperative Bank was formed in 1908 by a group of Shirley residents to service the Shirley Community. The formation of this Foundation is seen as a way to carry on the spirit of the Bank to help enrich the quality of life in Shirley.
Much of our work is accomplished by collaborating with organizations and individuals to achieve greater goals. With diverse voices and varying types of expertise at the table, together we can create a powerful force to bring ideas to fruition. Through this, we have formed a number of partnerships with other town organizations all working towards a similar goal.
Partners include - Friends of the Council on Aging, PlayBoard of Shirley, Community Assistance Collaborative, Friends of the Shirley Seniors, Shirley Meeting House and Center Town Hall.
In order for the Shirley Charitable Foundation to have a strong community impact, we must build our own internal strength. This includes a financial focus on growing our financial reserves and a Board focus on creating a diverse work environment that encourages learning, leadership and transparency.
